With 22 locations around the Twin Cities, Davanni’s is known for pizzas, hot hoagies, calzones, pasta, and salads. The company built its business through word of mouth, with the motto, “If you like it, tell others. If you don’t, tell us.” That means communication is key, both internally and with its customers.
In every location, Davanni’s has digital displays next to its menu boards for promotions. Davanni’s also offers party and meeting rooms which can be used for birthday parties, dinners, team events and business meetings. Most rooms have large HD TVs with video hook-ups.
In the past, Davanni’s utilized three different programs to manage content for its digital signage. This made administration, content development, distribution and auditing for each location time consuming and cumbersome. Despite the efforts of a skilled IT team, Davanni’s found Raspberry Pi, one of the three programs they used, too limiting in its content options and more difficult to manage. The desktops were not cost-effective or easy to use; form factor was too big; the in-house program was difficult to scale and update, difficult to schedule content for different day parts and it could not host video content for in-store displays.
Video is one of the most compelling content types a restaurant chain can offer for promotions, but Davanni’s was restricted to what its solutions could support. After determining that none of their existing digital signage solutions could perform up to their requirements, Davanni’s began to broaden its search for something that would reside on a single platform and grow along with the company. The solution had to be intuitive, user-friendly and have the ability to scale and integrate with future technology needs.
With Skykit, you can import a broad variety of content sources (e.g., presentations, PDFs, videos and screen feeds). Manage content by logging in from any browser on any device: phone, tablet or PC. The interfaces in the old, disparate digital signage solutions Davanni’s used made content management much more complicated than it had to be. Skykit’s intuitive user interface now helps the Davanni’s team create dynamic promotions and content.
When Davanni’s launched Skykit for all of its locations, they could introduce video to promotional displays. “Skykit unified our digital signage communications across all 22 locations,” says Davanni’s Marketing and Social Media Manager Jacqui Crocker. “It integrates with tools we already use to create content, allowing us to easily manage our ever-evolving content schedules in real-time. It used to be a headache to manage our displays, but now with Skykit, we have more time to focus on cultivating a rich in-store customer experience.”
“We are definitely seeing a cost-savings after switching to Skykit when you consider maintenance, software updates and tech support for the computers we had at each location. We spend less time chasing down problems”
– Ed Johnson, Davanni’s Director of IT
When Davanni’s locations rolled out new promotional content with videos of steaming-hot pizza being pulled from the oven, cheese stretching in impossibly long strands, freshly made hot hoagies and thirst-quenching drinks, Davanni’s immediately noticed a distinct uptick in customer orders and impulse add-on purchases. It’s not unusual for Davanni’s to see sales more than double on items that are promoted with Skykit.
