BoilerMASTERS Inc. Fires up internal communications with Skykit

01Overview

BoilerMASTERS, Inc. is a veteran-owned and operated boiler service company offering a full range of boilers, burners, industrial fuel burning and related equipment. Its services range from 24/7 emergency assistance to boiler startup and efficiency upgrades. The company was founded in 1988 by brothers William and Michael Majors, who aim to provide a great customer experience carried out with their commitment to “doing the right things…right.”

After the company moved to a new facility in 2013, BoilerMASTERS was looking for a better way to communicate messages internally — to service technicians as well as to management, administrative staff, and visitors.

02Challenge

The company is small but they serve approximately 200 customers every year in Indiana – some of whom would visit the office. It was imperative that all employees shared the same company vision and communicated consistently to customers, and that any content being shared in the lobby was appropriate for visitors.

The company was utilizing Google Slides to create content and they knew they wanted use Google tools. BoilerMASTERS already had a Chromebox and a digital display; the next step was finding an affordable, user-friendly content management system (CMS) to update, manage and share content.

03Solution

BoilerMASTERS found Skykit in mid-2016 and quickly decided to give it a try. When it came time to renew its subscription a year later, Operations Manager Abe Majors decided to evaluate Skykit against the other digital signage content management systems available. After exploring a dozen different content management systems via research and product trials, Majors decided to stay with Skykit.

The company can share a wide variety of information, including live updates about industry news, local and regional weather conditions, traffic information, and other content that can be scheduled if needed. The individuals who manage content decide what to share and when.

04Results

Skykit enables BoilerMASTERS to share relevant content in a variety of dynamic formats – well beyond static slide presentations. The CMS also allows multiple displays on a single screen. This means that a technician can view live weather and traffic information that could affect their ability to get to appointments on time, while another employee watches a YouTube training video that is relevant to their role. Yet another portion of the screen may be used to promote new product information. Users can modify start and stop times for particular content.

According to Majors, one of the best features of Skykit is the ability to exclude commercials, intros and other irrelevant info from YouTube videos.

“We can play content all day, but our audience typically has only minutes at a time to ingest that info,” said Abe Majors, Operations Manager at BoilerMASTERS. “Being able to distill a YouTube video so that we’re sharing the most relevant information with employees has been a huge benefit to us.”

In addition to the technical content sharing capabilities, Skykit has enabled BoilerMASTERS to communicate consistent messages. The content is freely available via the internet, and created internally, making the solution very affordable. The company has noticed an improved culture and attitude, as employees clearly appreciate the shared information.
